The National Network gathering brought together grassroots representatives from all three regional networks. The three-day retreat had to be designed for 40 people (with enough flexibility for the inevitable attendance fluctuations), who were all at different stages of their involvement with both their particular regional network and with the national food justice movement as a whole. Designing a gathering with enough breadth to include everyone and enough depth to engage everyone is always a welcomed challenge.
In order to address this, we held feedback sessions with all three networks, and then crafted the final facilitation plan with a core team of experienced facilitators in the food justice movement. Of course, nothing went exactly as planned, but a good facilitation design makes room for change!
